Hepatitis A and E: Is it serious?

Five different viruses cause viral hepatitis- A, B, C, D, E. All of this damage the liver but have different effects on your health. Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E are also known as faecal-borne hepatitis.

Consuming contaminated food or water causes hepatitis A. Infected faecal matter is the main reason for contamination. If you experience diarrhoea or vomiting, reach out to your doctor. One can get a vaccination against hepatitis A infection.

Drinking contaminated water causes hepatitis E virus infection. The disease is common in developing countries with poor sanitation. Generally, the symptoms improve within a few weeks.

Some of the symptoms of hepatitis are:

  • Body ache
  • Severe fatigue
  • Fever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Yellowing of the skin
  • Abdominal pain

Prevention Tips:

  • You should be conscious of eating and drinking at unhygienic places
  • Avoid consuming undercooked shellfish as it might be infected
  • Follow personal hygiene
