Top Cool and Healthy Summer drinks to beat the heat

The Mercury sets new records in summers every year. Scorching heat, excessive sweat and dehydration are some of the common complains every summer. The temptation in summers is to reach out to chilled aerated drinks that are easily available. However, let us tell you that they do more harm than good. Although they cool you down, the effect is momentary, after few minutes you start feeling the heat again. Also, they are loaded with sugar and provide you empty calories.

So, let us leave these fizzy drinks aside and instead try some natural homemade coolers that will not only cool you down but also provide you with valuable nutrients.

Aam Panna

  • Raw mango: 1 large
  • Crushed black peppercorns: 4-5
  • Cumin powder: 1 teaspoon
  • Black salt as per taste
  • Sugar: ½ cup
  • Pinch of asafoetida

How to make it?

Wash and boil mangoes. Let it cool. Peel, mash and strain the pulp.

Add cumin powder, black salt, crushed peppercorns, asafoetida and sugar. Mix well till the sugar gets dissolved.

Divide the mixture into four glasses, fill it up with cold water. You can add some ice cubes too. Stir well and serve.

Sweet Vanilla Lassi

  • 2 cups of chilled fresh curd
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 drops of vanilla essence
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 1 tsp hot milk
  • Few strands of Kesar (saffron)

How to make it?

Soak saffron strands in 1 tsp hot milk and leave it till the milk turns orangish.

Mix the sugar and curd and whisk till the sugar gets dissolved.

Add all the other ingredients and blend using a hand blender or mixer.

Serve chilled

Pineapple Lemonade


  • Lemon juice: 1 cup
  • Pineapple juice: 1 cup
  • Sugar: ½ cup
  • Lime juice: 2 tbsp

How to make it?

First, make a simple syrup by combining sugar and 1 cup water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar gets dissolved; let it cool

Take a large pitcher, mix sugar syrup, pineapple juice, lemon juice, lime juice and 5 cups of water. Keep in the refrigerator until chilled.

Serve with ice cubes

Watermelon slush

  • Pieces of watermelon without seeds: 5 cups
  • Sugar: 2 tbsp (according to your taste)
  • Juice of 1 lime

How to make it?

Add watermelon, lime juice, sugar and 1 cup of ice cubes in a blender until smooth.

Serve immediately.
