Not just an essential ingredient in your cooking, garlic is a superfood when it comes to fighting the flu. Garlic has allicin and allion, which have antiviral properties. You can just chew on a clove of garlic every few hours to fight away the flu. If that’s too much, you can cut it up and swallow it.
Turmeric (Haldi) is high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is recommended to add a bit of turmeric to milk and have that regularly to boost your immunity.
Foods with Vitamin C
Cold symptoms can be brought down with vitamin C. A great source of Vitamin C is citrus fruits. Other fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin C are broccoli, sweet potatoes, leafy green vegetables, papaya, tomatoes and more.
Like in books and movies, chicken soup is an excellent remedy to battle those flu symptoms. Not only does the warm soup soothe your throat, but the cooked chicken also releases amino acid cysteine, which is similar to, drugs used to treat conditions like bronchitis.
Whether used in food, tea or simply added to boiling water, ginger helps fight viruses that cause various illnesses. It also clears the respiratory tract by helping to break down mucus.
Foods with Zinc
Zinc strengthens the immune system and also fights colds. Foods that contain zinc are beans, black-eyed peas, soy, lentils, nuts, pumpkin seeds, eggs and more.
It might sound strange, but mushrooms help you fight the flu because of the presence of selenium, which stimulates the immune system and helps the white blood cells produce the cytokines needed to fight sickness.
Staying hydrated is important if you’re trying to stay healthy or trying to beat a sickness. It is because your body might already be losing a lot of fluids because of sweating and running noses. In addition to plenty of water, drink herbal teas, honey and lemon water, broth, ginger ale, etc.
Along with staying warm, using a cold compress, drinking and eating right will help fight symptoms and speed up your recovery. Even if you aren’t sick, including these items in your daily diet might prevent you from catching these infections easily.
